“Emotional resilience is the ability to adapt to stressful situations and cope with life's ups and downs. ... Resilience does not eliminate stress or erase life's difficulties, but allows you to tackle or accept problems, live through adversity and move on with life.”
As individuals we all need to summon emotional resilience when faced with difficulties, from community and even worldwide events, such as the many and diverse impacts of a global pandemic, to the trauma of domestic violence, or the complications of living life with chronic illness, or mental illness and depression, to just trying to get by financially, or taking care of family and loved ones.
As artists, we use different mediums to deal with our own challenges, and by putting pen to paper, brush to canvas, or carving out an image, we are communicating our truest feelings to the viewer. With this exhibition we hope we have created a range of art that is relatable, that provokes thoughtfulness, reflection, or sometimes just evokes a smile.
“In spite of everything I shall rise again: I will take up my pencil, which I have forsaken in my great discouragement, and I will go on with my drawing.” Vincent Van Gogh
