Digital Photography And Cyanotype On Fabriano | 40.5 x 36.5 x 3 cm

“There is a language, little known” artworks showcase the symbolic language of flowers which has been recognized for centuries in mythologies, folklore and sonnets where nearly every sentiment conceivable can be conveyed. Floriography (language of flowers) is a type of cryptological communication through the use or arrangement of flowers. The concept to visually represent this historic language originated with Caroline Wisler and Rose Watson’s affinity for nature. Having refined their individual practices through Visual Arts studies in the Tweed-Bryon region, a friendship and collaboration was formed. They share a vision to create artwork with their love for nature and to reveal this lost language using historical and contemporary methods. With Caroline’s love of the traditional photographic process Cyanotype and Rose’s passion for Digital mediums they deliver an alliance where historical techniques merge with the contemporary. Each image conceptualizes a message or sentiment through combining light and shadow allowing a visual representation of the flowers meaning to be conveyed. During the Victorian era the gift of a Hibiscus flower represented the delicate and fleeting nature of beauty, youth, and perfection. This vibrant and exquisite bloom, which only blossoms for one day, epitomizes how short lived attractiveness can be.
