A waterfall edge adorns this bowl, made from a Mallee burl. Burls offer a unique and unpredictable blend of grain and colour as the tree growth is twisted and folded so no two are the same. The waterfall style allows the maximum exposure of this characteristic. To lift the bowl airily, a stubby foot lurks underneath. The foot has its own story, too, as it is from Jarrah timber that began life as a verandah in Western Australia, then came to Queensland as a workbench. It was happily saved from being burnt, and can be used to make feet and small bowls, though its age makes it iron hard.
